Deodorization: Pet odors, smoke odors, musty odors, mold

Having your carpets cleaned will remove a pet stain, but it will not remove the odor. Removing pet odor from a carpet is a fairly extensive procedure. When dogs or cats urinate on a carpet gravity takes over. The pet urine penetrates down to the carpets backing. The backing slows the penetration, so the urine spreads. When it hits the cushion, it spreads again. When it hits the subfloor, it spreads again. It then soaks into the subfloor. By the time the urine dries, the pet stain on the subfloor is probably at least twice the size as the pet stain on the surface of the carpet. To completely remove the pet odor, all of these layers need to be decontaminated. Removing the pet stain will not remove the odor, and removing the pet odor will not always remove the stain.

Our procedure for total pet odor elimination

First:

We will use a UV (ultraviolet) light to find the urine, then we will pull back the carpet to take a peek at the back. We will then know the full extent of the damage. Only then will we be able to estimate the cost of the decontamination.


The Carpet:

The affected areas of the carpet are allowed to soak in a solution which dissolves & neutralizes the pet urine, and eliminates the visible urine stain. The carpet is then extracted to remove excess moisture. Then it is steam cleaned, front & back to remove the neutralized pet urine and cleaning solution.


The Cushion:

The contaminated cushion is removed from the home and discarded.


The Subfloor:

The subfloor is decontaminated & sealed. New cushion is installed. The carpet is then reinstalled.

This is an aggressive procedure, but it is the only way to completely remove pet odor from carpet.

We also have less expensive enzyme treatments which will greatly reduce, but not totally eliminate pet odor in carpets.

Smoke Odors • Mildew • Musty Odors

We offer Thermal fog treatments for elimination of smoke odors, cooking odors, musty odors, dead rodents, and more. This is a very effective and inexpensive way to treat not just the carpet, but the upholstery, walls, blinds, air ducts, all at once. It also allows us to treat crawl spaces and other inaccessible voids. The thermal fog creates billions of dry particles which average about half a micron in size. These particles are able to follow the same path and go anywhere the odor particles have gone. Aerosols usually have an average wet droplet size about 10 microns in size. Cigarette smoke has a particle size of less than 1 micron in size. Aerosols & sprays don't have a chance against cigarette smoke. When the thermal fog particle touches an odor particle, the two particles combine, changing the odor compound into a new, non-odorous compound.


Mold

Mold cannot be removed from soft goods (carpet, upholstery, drywall, etc.) It can however be removed from nonporous surfaces. We will show you which materials are salvageable and clean and treat them. We can remove and discard the materials which cannot be cleaned, thereby eliminating your mold problem forever.
